Is this yet another headache for Obama?
Remember, Obama has called William Ayers a "mainstream Liberal Chicago Politician" and said that Ayers bombing days are far behind him.
Well, now we see that in 2001, the exact same year Obama took a campaign donation from Ayers and served with him on the Woods foundation, Ayers was doing pictorials of himself stomping on the American Flag.
Now, if that is really "Mainstream Chicago Liberalism", and Obama has no issues with it, won't this hurt him?
I'm not sure what to think of this: I'm no Obama supporter. Obama claims that Ayer's radical past is, well, in the past, and Ayers is just a normal person now with a checkered past.
But just think of the ads to come: pictures of Ayers stomping on the flag, with "Obama calls this man mainstream", then Obama just standing there while everyone else is pledging allegiance. Then the flag pin thing...
Should Obama do another "toss him under the bus" moment with Ayers now, like he did with Wright? This set of pics of Ayers has just been noticed today, and Obama really hasn't ever denounced Ayers current politics--not the bombing, but his current statements. This is where Obama calling Ayers "mainstream" is going to hurt Obama--because a lot of the moderates aren't going to think that a man who stomps on an American flag gleefully is mainstream at all.
If Ayers replaces Wright in the narrative of the media, I'm not sure how much it helps Obama. It's one thing to be having issues with your pastor; it's another to be having issues with a guy who was involved with bombing our troops.
On the other hand, Obama is, as far as we know, not as close with Ayers as he was with Wright. So he will find it easier to toss Ayers under the bus with the "how was I expected to know how anti-American this man was?", though that might still be somewhat hard to believe.
Edit: I see that many of the commentators are doing a big collective "so what?" I wonder why they seem to think that hanging around with huge anti-american people, who openly attack this country, is not a liability for someone running to be president.
Does no one think that Ayers is a liability, or has that potential? "Yes, I always take money from guys famous for setting bombs!" Is that really the attitude here?
